Removing Personal Information from Pictures in Windows 10

 You may not know it, but every time you take a photo with your digital camera or with your smartphone camera, some information, such as the location where the photo was taken, the date and time, and the camera settings is saved in a file along with the photo taken.


Information like this is usually stored as EXIF ??(Exchangeable Image File Format) metadata that is part of the image file – usually the JPEG file format. The properties that can be saved as EXIF ??metadata vary depending on the features supported by your camera, but typically, will include GPS location coordinates, date and time, application used to create or edit the file, and camera settings such as aperture, ISO speed and focal length.


Following are some steps to delete personal information in your images and how to stop your camera from storing location data.


How to Remove Personal Information from Image


1. Right-click the image file and select “Properties”.


2. Click “Details”.


3. In this section, you can check the EXIF ??metadata contained in the file. Click the “Remove Properties and Personal Information” link.

4. Then select the “Remove the following properties from this file” option.


5. Check each box for the properties you want to delete, or you can select “Select all” to delete all properties.

6. Click OK to remove the EXIF ??metadata information from the image.


You can also delete this information in multiple images at once. Select all the images you want to delete then right click and click "properties".

How to Stop Windows Smartphone Camera to Save GPS Location On Every New Image


If you have a Windows smartphone, you can use the following steps to turn off location on the camera:


1. Open “Settings” on your smartphone.


2. Select “Privacy” then select “Location”.


3. On the “Choose apps that can use your location” tab, scroll down to “Camera” then turn it to OFF.
