How to Remove or Change Arrows Image on Shortcut Icons in Windows

In Windows, all icons for shortcuts are usually arrows or small arrows. Well, actually this image doesn't bother you, but for those of you who don't like it, there is a way to delete it.

To do this, you need to edit the Windows Registry.

To get started, open the Registry Editor by hitting Start and typing “regedit.” Press Enter to open Registry Editor and give it permission to make changes to your PC. In the Registry Editor, use the left sidebar to navigate to the following path:

In key Explorer, look for the subkey named “Shell Icons”. If it's not there, you'll need to create one by right-clicking on the Explorer folder icon, then selecting New > Key, and naming the new key “Shell Icons”.

Then, create a new value in the Shell Icons key. Right-click on the Shell icons folder and select New > String Value. Name the new key "29".

Now, you will change the key. Double click the key you just named “29” then type (or copy paste) the following line into the “Value data” box to remove the arrow from the shortcut icon:

Click OK and exit Registry Editor. You must restart the computer (or log off ) to see the changes. If you change your mind and want to bring back the arrow image, then delete the "29" key that you created earlier.

You can also replace the regular arrow with a super large arrow, like the one in Windows Vista. Just apply this line to the “Value data” box on the key 29 you created:

And again, close Registry Editor and restart your computer to see the changes.
