How to Limit Bandwidth With Simple Queue on MikroTik

how to limit bandwidth with simple queue mikrotik.

MikroTik routers are routers that are rich in modern features and have become common in the market. The router provides options like hotspot service, graphics, per-IP bandwidth management among many other options. We know that bandwidth management is providing internet according to the client's requirements. There are various ways to do bandwidth management in MikroTik. One of them is by using the Simple Queue feature in MikroTik, this is one simple way to limit bandwidth. Here are the configuration steps.

Bandwidth Limit With Simple Queue

Simple Bandwidth Limit

Sample case:

For example, here we will limit the maximum upload: 256kbps and maximum download: 512kbps for clients with IP connected to the router.

1. First, you go to the Queues menu then click the “Add” icon

2. Next, you must first fill in the Target Address Parameter for the IP Address of the client to be limited. The contents can be: Single IP (, Network IP (, multiple IPs (,, or you can also use the interfaces name by pressing the small down arrow button on the right stuffing box. To determine the maximum speed of the client, the parameters of the target upload and download target are max-limit. Can be selected from the drop-down menu or written manually using bps (bits per second).

Share Bandwidth Limit

Actually, besides being used for simple bandwidth management as in the example above, we can also use Simple Queue to adjust bandwidth share by applying Multi-Level Limitation or Multilevel Limitation.

Sample case:

We will do a bandwidth setting of 512kbps for use by 3 clients. The concept is that when all clients access, each client will get a minimum bandwidth of 128kbps. If there is only 1 client accessing, then that client can get up to 512kbps of bandwidth. But if there are several clients (not all clients) access, then the available bandwidth will be divided equally among a number of active clients.

1. First we will create a Parent Queue. As previously explained, the amount of bandwidth that we have can be filled in the parameters of Target Upload Max-Limit and Target Download Max-Limit.

2. Next we have to define the per-client limitation by configuring the child-queue. In the child-queue, we fill the Target Address parameter with the IP address of each client. Apply Limit-at (CIR) : 128kbps and Max-Limit (MIR) : 512kbps. Then we navigate to the Parent Total Bandwidth that we created earlier. Then repeat this method on another client, adjust the Target-Address.

3. Finally we do the test by downloading on the client-side or can use Speedtest.
