How to Hide Name and Email on Windows 'Login Screen

If you use a Microsoft account to log into your computer, Windows will usually display your real name and email address on the login screen. For some, this can be a privacy issue – for example, when you use your laptop in public, it is much safer if the user is required to enter a username and password to enter the computer.

Following are two ways to hide this personal information on the login screen:

Method 1: Edit Computer Policy to Hide Information

1. Type “Local Group Policy Editor” in search then press enter.

2. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options.

3. Double-click “Interactive logon: Display user information when the session is locked”.

4. Select “Do not display user information”.

5. Click “Apply” then click OK.

6. Double-click “Interactive logon: Do not display last user name”.

7. Change the settings to “disable” then click OK.

Method 1: Edit Registry to Hide Information

1. Type “Regedit” in search then press enter.

2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

3. Double-click “dontdisplaylastusername”.

4. Change 0 to 1 in the Value data box, then click OK.

5. Right-click on an empty area in the right pane and select New > DWORD (32-bit).

6. Enter “DontDisplayLockedUserID” for the DWORD name.

7. Double-click “DontDisplayLockedUserID”.

8. Change 0 to 3 in the Value data box, then click OK.

The next time you log into your computer, your info will be hidden. To login, you must fill in your username (email address or your name) and password.
