How to Disable Search History in Windows File Explorer

 The search feature in Windows File Explorer saves recent searches by default to make it easier for users to find the same file again. However, if you don't like this feature, you can turn it off.

Disabling Search History via Registry

1. To get started, open the Registry Editor by hitting Start and typing regedit. Press Enter to open the Registry Editor and give it permission to make changes to your PC.

4. If you do not see the “Explorer” key in Windows, then right-click on the Windows key and select New > Key.


5. Type “Explorer” as the name for the new key.


6. Then, right-click on the empty space on the right and select New > DWORD (32-bit).


7. Type “DisableSearchBoxSuggestions” as the name for the new value.


8. Then, double-click on the “DisableSearchBoxSuggestions” value.


9. Type 1 in the Value data box and click “OK”.


10. Close Registry Editor by selecting File > Exit or by clicking the “X” in the upper right corner.

You must restart the computer to see these changes.

After restarting, you will not see the search history display when you type anything in the search box in File Explorer.
