How to Disable Lock Screen on Windows 10

Microsoft no longer allows users to disable the lock screen by using a group policy setting or registry hack. However there is still a way to disable it at this time.

How to Disable Lock Screen (Except During Boot)

Follow the instructions below and you will only see the lock screen when you boot up the computer. The lock screen will not appear when you lock the computer or wake up from sleep. If you set your computer to sleep or hibernate, you will never see the lock screen again.

The easiest way to do this is to rename the system application “Microsoft.LockApp”. Here's how:

1. Open File Explorer and go to C:\Windows\SystemApps.

2. Locate the “Microsoft.LockApp_cw5n1h2txyewy” folder in the list.

3. Right-click, select “Rename”, and rename it to “Microsoft.LockApp_cw5n1h2txyewy.backup” (without the quotes).

4. If you want to restore the lock screen, go back to C:\Windows\SystemApps, find the “Microsoft.LockApp_cw5n1h2txyewy.backup” file, and change the name again to “Microsoft.LockApp_cw5n1h2txyewy”.

By renaming the LockApp folder, Windows 10 will no longer be able to lock the screen, and you will immediately go to the login screen where you can type the password. Unfortunately, you will still see the lock screen when you boot up the computer.

When you upgrade Windows 10, the update will likely return the “LockApp” folder to its original state. And you have to rename the folder again.
